The event focused on restorative justice returns for fourth year this weekend

DECATUR – ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ University’s Criminal Justice Department will co-host the 2023 Decatur Peace Summit on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Salvation Army Offices at 229 W Main St. in Decatur.

The Peace Summit will again bring the community together to have a discussion on restorative justice with the goal of completing an action plan to create a better community around Decatur.

The event will be hosted by ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ Criminal Justice Professor Keyria Rodgers, the Salvation Army and the Decatur-based non-profit organization Walk It Like We Talk It. Other event sponsors include the Community Foundation of Macon County and Fully Free, an organization that works to reform the criminal legal system.

The keynote speaker will be Marlon Chamberlain, Vice Chairman of Restoring Rights & Opportunities Coalition of Illinois (RROCI). RROCI’s focus is eliminating barriers for individuals who have life experience in the criminal justice system.

The event is free and open to the public, and lunch will be provided. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. Community members and organizations are invited to participate in the discussion, as well as set up a table to promote their organization's resources.
