Kay V. Green

Surrounded by her family, Kay Verne Green (Joyner), 62 of Decatur peacefully departed this life on Mother's Day May 14th, 2023. Kay was born on August 13th, 1960 at St. Mary's Hospital to Booker T. And Sarah Etta (Newbon) Joyner of Decatur, Illinois. She was one of the most compassionate, generous, charismatic, and intelligent women you could meet. With a heart of and for God鈥檚 work, her impact in the community was boundless.
Kay served as a youth leader at Living Word Ministries for over 20 years, a retired teacher in the Decatur Public School System where she taught over 27 years and created programs connecting her directly with people in the community. To this day, many continue to comment on the impact her service and heart made in their lives. Her heart was rooted in compassion, selflessness, and love. There was nothing she wouldn鈥檛 do for someone in need, no where she wouldn鈥檛 go for someone who needed a shoulder to lean on, and no advice she would withhold from someone seeking a sound word.
